Disability Powys

A new model for delivering services, improving access to our services, and effectively communicating our needs as disabled people.

Disability Powys has vacated its office in the Autopalace, Llandrindod Wells. To ensure we maximise the value of investment - from Powys County Council and others - for the benefit of disabled people in Powys, we are reallocating our resources and developing a new, more cost-effective model for delivering our services. We no longer work from an office in the traditional sense; we manage the charity with an online office, reinvesting the savings to enable more staff and Trustees to work with and support a growing network of Access Groups and volunteers across the length and breadth of Powys.

Economic austerity continues to reduce the amount of money available to support public and social care services, and unless we adapt we face losing an important Disabled Persons' Organisation in Powys committed to supporting disabled people, advocating the social model of disability and responding to the needs of our communities. Our vision is for a society that disables no-one.

Recent months have seen significant, profound changes at Disability Powys that have revitalised the charity. We apologise to all of our 200+ members who’ve not heard from us in a while, as we’ve been obliged to take bold measures to secure the future of our services. Disability Powys is a membership organisation first and foremost and our/your next Annual General Meeting will be at 11.00am on Wednesday 6th June - venue to be confirmed. Please get in touch if you’d like to attend, hear our plans, and contribute your thoughts, ideas and perhaps some of your time to help us secure a sustainable future for this Disabled Persons’ Organisation.
